Using Global Connections in Fashion School

Many fashion schools have affiliations all over the world, offering fashion degree students the opportunity to travel to international cities and enhance their knowledge and their experience of fashion.

Fashion School Connections

In the United States, we think of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco as the major hubs of fashion design. However fashion school students should know that there are fashion hubs across the globe and much to learn from them.

One of the biggest advantages of fashion school is the chance to make connections— to other schools in or out of the country, with other students, professors, and industry professionals. Attending fashion school gets you plugged into and enjoying the benefits of a global network.

Fashion Abroad

Many design schools offer study abroad programs, through connections with international fashion schools. Here are some examples of great cities in which you can study fashion design through schools in the US:

  • London
  • Paris
  • Milan
  • Berlin
  • Tokyo

While these examples are the biggest players, you can study fashion design in practically any city in the world.

Fashion School Students Find Freedom

Recently, a German online publication interviewed some Israeli fashion students who had relocated to Berlin to study at a fashion school there. “Fashion is so free here,” one of the students said about Berlin, citing the difference between Germany and her native Israel.

Another fashion school student decided to start her own line in China after a visit there.

Don’t forget how big the world is when you enroll in fashion school. The connections are there. You never know what you might learn in fashion design if you cross an ocean or two.
