P Diddy’s Fashion Career: Could Work Uniforms Be the Next Big Thing in the World of Bling?
by Fran Walker
fran.walker@fashiondesignschoolreview.com Fashion School Review Columnist Summer is here and you may be looking for the next step in your fashion career. With nothing but talent and hard work to recommend you, celebrity fashion designers such as Britney Spears probably get you down. The idea of P Diddy designing work uniforms may be equally depressing. But, like Britney Spears designing maternity wear, these are fashion facts you just have to get used to. Besides, P Diddy is recognized as a celebrity designer with talent, so why shouldn’t he add a side order of bling to your burger? Fashion Career OptionsNot everyone who studies fashion design ends up in couture. Believe it or not – not everybody wants to! Fashion design programs equip you to design all sorts of garments - ready-to-wear, high street fashion, costumes and uniforms. The reality is that the lines between these areas are becoming more and more blurred. Fashion design has long infiltrated the baby market, and has now permeated the pet market too. If workers have to wear a uniform day in and day out, it seems only fair that they wear something they look and feel good in.Youth Fashion DesignOf course, we all know that the fashion world is more canny than kind. The fast food chain concerned knows that youth is their biggest market. Most young people now – male or female, are fashion experts. Having their burgers served with added bling is probably more important than health, the environment or any other consideration. Moreover, in defense of P Diddy, he enjoys new challenges as much as he enjoys new names. He has moved successfully into the women’s market, and now he may well fast-food fashion design to his fashion career. We hope, of course, that he doesn’t eat too many burgers in the process. We wouldn’t want him to end up in Britney Spear’s maternity wear!Sources:www.bbc.co.ukwww.prospects.ac.uk www.fashion.arts.ac.uk About the AuthorFran Walker is a freelance writer, editor and researcher specializing in educational, health, safety and domestic issues.
